ARC’s are uncorrected copies of novels that are sent to book reviewers and readers (usually between 3-6 months prior to the actual sale), this generates interest to other readers and raises hype for everybody to buy the book, they are meant for review purposes only with the intent to gather a consensus and feedback from readers. When we say these books are uncorrected copies we mean these novels are bound to be edited and different when they are released for purchase. There are only a limited number of ARC’s available and there are a few ways to get one: From the author (For Linger, Maggie gave away a few copies back in February), from the publisher, or at conventions. These are the right ways to go about getting an ARC. And you can always check blogs because a lot of review blogs give them away. ARC’s are meant to be passed on (free). Everyone gets excited for new books, but there is no need to purchase an ARC from ebay or from anyone who happens to be selling one, because it’s disrespectful to the author and to the publisher. Most likely continued abuse is liable to lead to publishers changing if and how they give copies of ARCs out. Authors don’t earn royalties from ARC’s so when you buy one you’re money isn’t going to the author or publisher. Books take a long time to write and revise and when people sell ARC’s they’re making money off of a book they didn’t write. Having an Advanced Reader Copy of a book is a privilege not a right. So please be respectful of the ARC’s that are out there. If you have one, enjoy it! If you see one for sale, resist the urge to purchase it and save your money for the real deal. Purchase a book when it is officially released. The books are worth the wait! So please just hang in there. So please join our campaign to stop the selling/purchasing of ARC’s!
